Darrell Cates

Pastor of Stewardship and Legacy

405-740-8013

Darrell is the pastor of Stewardship and Legacy Giving at New Covenant. He has served as an ordained minister in Oklahoma since 1974. His ministry experiences include pastoring local congregations, ten years as a District Superintendent, and ten years on staff at the Oklahoma Methodist Foundation as Director of Conference and Church Relations.

Darrell’s passion as pastor was to build the local church by helping the church discover its place in God’s mission and each disciple of Jesus discover his or her place in that mission. To do this we emphasized personal and corporate Bible Study, discovering our Wesleyan roots of God’s Grace through the Walk to Emmaus and encouraging support and participation in God’s mission to transform lives through the love of Jesus.

My own journey of discipleship as a follower of Jesus began in my family of origin, nurtured through a local congregation in West Tulsa. Deeply formed through the work of a campus minister and campus ministry at the University of Tulsa and shaped through my studies at Asbury Theological Seminary.

Bonnie (my spouse) and I met at the University of Tulsa and were married in 1975. Her faithful and committed walk as a follower of Jesus has brought grace and strength to our home and family.

As an eleven-year trustee of the Foundation and ten years on staff with John Crooch and Bill Junk, it was my privilege to work with churches and individuals helping them engage in the mission of making disciples of Jesus and expanding God’s kingdom through intentional planned generosity.  I would count it a special gift of God if I could help that happen at New Covenant.
