Changing Lives in Tanzania
In September, 2007 a team of three people (Debbie Conrady, Becky Roman, and Becky’s teenage son) visited Morgoro, Tanzania. They saw an empty lot, made friends, and promised to return.
With the help of New Covenant’s financial support and of returning teams, a church was built over ten years, school classrooms were constructed as well as a library for the school, and a pastors’ house for learning was built. Friendships continued to flourish as year after year, teams went to Morgoro. Many, many people across the ocean have been affected because of your generous contributions!
Let me tell of two young women in Tanzania whose lives have drastically changed with the continued support of New Covenant.
Sophia, a young deaf girl, was discarded by her father. She was destined to no happy life because of her disability and because she is female- two distinct strikes against her. The pastor of Mtipuli, a Masaii village in Tanzania, talked with people from New Covenant about Sophia. With your Faith Promise Support, Sophia received hearing aids and was able to attend a school that helps children with disabilities. Today, Sophia can hear with her hearing aids, is receiving an excellent education, glows with happiness, and she has a bright future ahead. None of this would be possible without YOUR support!
Many girls in third world countries are not thought to be worthy of the expense of an education. Families in Morgoro must decide which child (if any of their children) will be able to attend school. There is the expense of tuition, uniforms, supplies, and often the expense of transportation. One woman in our congregation has made several trips to Tanzania over the years. On one of her many trips, she met Felista. Unfortunately, Felista’s family did not have the funds to send Felista to school. This New Covenant lady made a promise to pay for Felista’s education. Today, Felista is 19 years old, speaks fluent English, and is very bright. On the recent team trip to Tanzania, Pastor Cox was getting ready to teach pastors. However, he had no interpreter. Felista was quickly dispatched to become his translator. She fluently translated his teachings from English to Swahili without hesitation! None of this would have been possible without the generous support of Jeanette Nance! One person CAN make a difference! God truly puts people in places to touch lives, to change lives, to make a difference.
What a blessing for these two young women in Tanzania. Many, many similar stories could be told of individual children and adults whose lives have been changed because of each of you that supports New Covenant Mission with your Faith Promise dollars. Through prayer, listening to God’s calling, financial support, and continued commitment of teams going across the oceans, we of New Covenant, are making a huge differences in the lives of our “fellow neighbors.”
