Lent Devotional March 23: A Miracle
Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. James 5:13-15
As Christians, we are aware of the power of prayer, and the many miracles that come from one or more believers asking for God’s grace. This power was just personally revealed to me and my family.
I was in a prayer workshop one Sunday and during one of the prayers, the leader, Tom Mills, prayed for God to help the “Mayor of Edmond” with any difficulties he might face. I thought it was strange and random since he doesn’t know me or my family and my dad doesn’t attend the church.
A week later my dad was taken seriously ill and almost died. Little did we know that Tom’s prayer and that of many others would keep him alive. Prayer chains and acts of faith went far beyond the hope the doctors were giving us. The doctors said it was truly a miracle that he lived, and my family knows it is because of the prayers that were sent to God on his behalf.
We will never know why Tom felt compelled to pray that Sunday for my dad, but we do know that God listened and gave us a miracle before we even knew we needed it.
Prayer: Dear God, thank you that you know our needs before we do. And thank you for using our prayers to impact the lives of others. Amen.
